Pat Neff was grew up in the small town of Sayre, Oklahoma—One stoplight and a lot of Drama for a small town. He was the son of Mike & Bunny Neff, Local Insurance & Real Estate people and members of the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Pat played Drums and Percussion in High school and College, got a Masters in Music Ed. Along the way, I found Country Music, found that I could make money for college and make friends at the same time. I also played in several Jazz groups along the way.
I had a friend who played banjo, so I picked up banjo learned to play—got into bluegrass and did several festivals. I won a few awards in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arizona—Bluegrass band broke up, so I got into songwriting. I won the Songwriting at the
Southwest Pickers Festival in Sante Fe and Judged it a few years after that, Played in a new songwriter showcase at the Kerrville Folk Festival and also won and performed for several years at the Silverton Folk Festival in Silverton Colorado.
Currently, I teach Music at Wingate High School on the Navajo Indian Reservation and also Music Ed Classes at the University of New Mexico. I perform quite often at the Coal Street Pub in Gallup, New Mexico. I also play with the Red Rock Strings Chamber Orchestra, the “On Call” Jazz Band and sub as a percussionist with the White Mountain Symphony is Show Low Arizona. I’ve taught Guitar & Banjo for 16 summers at the Albuquerque Folk Festival.
